Beat The GMAT!

Beat The GMAT is a day-to-day blog detailing how I studied for and beat the Graduate Management Admission Test™ (GMAT). This site shall serve as a study guide for future GMAT test takers.

Test Date Pushed Back...

I was originally supposed to take the GMAT on Tuesday, July 19, but I have decided to push back my test date to Tuesday, August 16. I believe I will be much more confident about taking the exam once I finish the Official Guide, which will take a few more weeks.

To GMAT test prep folk out there: take the GMAT only when you feel ready to take the GMAT. Change your test date if necessary.

Hi Eric,

I’ve been following your site for quite some time and I really like it, I am starting my GMAT preparation and I think that I will also create my own blog when the time comes, because I found that it is a big source of motivation. I would like to congratulate you on your hard work, you are doing really good and I know that you will get a really good score.

I have one question, I haven’t seen any reviews about the critical reasoning section, how are you preparing for that one? So far this section is giving me a really hard time.

Thanks a lot for this site and tons of luck =)

Catalina.

Catalina:

Thanks for reading my site. Please let me know when you create your own blog so that I can link it from this site.

In terms of critical reading, I haven't begun preparing for it in the same way that I have done so with reading comprehension, data sufficiency, and sentence correction thus far. Critical reading is the next topic on my list to review, which I will start doing by next week.

The CR review I have done so far has been reading the chapters on CR from the Princeton Review and Kaplan books.

If you find that CR is giving you a lot of problems now, start doing research on CR strategy on TestMagic forum and also start doing a lot of practice problems using Official Guide. You will improve with practice--best of luck!
